Boston Pizza Grand Opening

Tonight was a special night: Boston Pizza held their Grand Opening Ceremony. Pizza, chicken wings, ribs, chicken, and cactus cut fries were served and then Cam Christenson and I performed the ceremonial cutting of the pizza.

Just a quick note of caution: they open for business Tuesday.

There was a lot of people at the celebration.

• This is Boston Pizza's 368th restaurant making it the largest casual restaurant chain in Canada.
• The Kindersley store, when it has a full compliment of staff, will employ 70 people.
• If you know someone looking for a position Boston Pizza is still looking for people to hire.
• Staff has been training for the past couple of weeks and are ready to go.
• The trainers will be around for a couple of weeks before heading home and then on to the next opening. Sarah, the lead trainer in for Kindersley, will be returning to Saskatchewan to train staff at the new Martensville location.

Thank you to Cam, Paul, Brad, and Sarah for their commitment to Kindersley and their hospitality. A great time was had by all and here are some photos of the restaurant.

The servers at Boston Pizza donated the tips they collected during their training evenings to the local chapter of KidSport. $3,810 was donated. August 8, 2015.

It was a great evening and I'm looking forward to Boston Pizza's participation in the life of Kindersley.

My opening remarks follow.

·         Good evening everyone, it is a pleasure to be with you tonight

·         There has been a lot of excitement and anticipation over Boston Pizza’s opening

·         So I would first like to say “Thank You” and "Welcome" to all the Boston Pizza representatives, contractors, and staff who have been working to get things ready

·         The restaurant looks great and we are to have you as a partner with our local businesses

·         Kindersley’s Boston Pizza is due to the collaboration of Canalta and Boston Pizza, Pat Holland, and the Town of Kindersley to develop the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the construction of the Canalta Hotel, Boston Pizza, and the coming truck stop.

·         Boston Pizza's arrival in Kindersley has been eagerly anticipated for many reasons:

          ·         First, it is the commitment of our businesses and residents who have been growing and building Kindersley to the point where a national chain, such as Boston Pizza, wants to do business here

          ·         Second, it is the recognition and confidence of our Boston Pizza partners in our community and region, to grow their business through a franchise in Kindersley

·         Having such a recognizable franchise such as Boston pizza in Kindersley affirms that there is a lot of confidence in our community and regional economy

·         Boston Pizza’s brand recognition will continue to help Kindersley become a destination point

·         I am told that this restaurant and bar provides additional growth of more than 70 jobs for our community and region

·         Many of the staff are from around the region and to you I want to say that you are most welcome

·         But most importantly, the well-established quality of the meals, drinks, and the hospitality experience here means that Kindersley and area residents have a place to come and unwind and enjoy good company

·         It's a great pleasure to welcome Boston Pizza to Kindersley

Sewage Facility Build Canada Fund (BCF) Application

We have been anxiously, and patiently, waiting to learn if we received funding for a new waste water/sewage processing facility. The new facility, a lagoon, hybrid, or mechanical, is expected to cost more than a pool.

Here is a not so interesting tidbit: more than $1 billion of applications were received and only $43 million worth of projects are being approved.

I regret to share with you that we did not receive any funding for this project. We will keep our ears to the ground hoping new programs will be announced after the federal election.

Paving, Electrical Boxes, Streetlights, and More at Brookhollow Estates

New Grain Elevator

Some significant engineering work is being undertaken in the RM. Just west of town on the gravel road north of the railway a new grain elevator is being built. The concrete pour is being done almost none stop over about 7 days.

Chamber of Commerce Trade Shaw

Late Friday afternoon I spent a couple of hours at the Trade Shaw. It was good to talk with a number of people and hear some of the things that were on their mind.
