Local Policing
Recently Councillor Janzen attended a conference on policing in municipalities. There has been lots of discussion regarding policing. One of the things we have been discussing, and waiting for, is a decision from the Ministry of Justice regarding our ability to appoint a 'Special Constable.' With a 'Special Constable' we would have the ability to enforce more laws, especially traffic rules, within Kindersley. As Kindersley grows we need to ensure that we are safe and secure preserving our small town feel.
At the 2013 Municipal Policing Forum Councillor Janzen and the other delegates had the opportunity to discuss their concerns on policing in their communities with the new Commanding Officer of F Division Chief Superintendent Brenda Butterworth-Carr. One of the main themes discussed was the enforcement of municipal bylaws by the RCMP. The provincial policing agreement states that the RCMP will enforce municipal bylaws within the context of public safety. This standard will be discussed when we next meet with the Staff-Sergeant to discuss the Annual Performance Plan.
