Recently the Chamber of Commerce hosted a session on "Fraud and Scams" during their
AGM. The case of our former CAO still casts a pall over our community. That pall is distrust and if we are going to move foward as a community we have to trust. Regretfully, when we trust we may be hurt. Fraud is betrayal and difficult to overcome. One of the things I've learned is that most fraud cases are difficult to discover. Fraud is revealed as the fraudsters make decisions and actions based on their unseen gain.
All this is to say that today I had an enquiry regarding our former CAO and if monies have been repaid. The money has been repaid and here are the records:
- May 17, 2013 $10,000 Receipt #44526
- June 6, 2012 $ 5,000 Receipt #45068
- July 20, 2012 $18,000 Receipt #46641
Accounting processes are in place to protect the Town as much as is reasonably possible.
