Aging

As a nation we are aging and it has significant effect upon policies that are developed, plans for the future, and how we act today.

Did you know that by 2036 almost 25% of Canadians will be 65 or older? That number is surprising and means that more resources are going to continue to be allocated for 'senior' programs such as: housing, health, access, transportation, education, taxation, and more.

This increase is due to a couple of factors: the demographic bubble know as the 'baby boomers' and people living longer.

There is an interesting study being conducted on aging. It is longitudinal (over time) on people over a variety of ages. As they say: "Over the next 20 years, the study will follow 50,000 Canadians, collecting detailed information on their physical, emotional and social health functioning. We anticipate that the information gained from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging will lead to better programs, policies and services for our aging population." For more information please check their site.

One of the ways we have responded at the Town of Kindersley is by passing a resolution on July 22, 2013 to restrict a parking spot in front of the Town Office to 20 minutes so our 'more mature' customers/residents may have a convenient place to park as they pay their bills or make inquiries. As well the new housing developments need to have residents/facilities for seniors.
