Canada Day Remarks

Hi: below are the notes of my remarks at the Canada Day Flag Raising Ceremony earlier today. My actual remarks were a little different because I don't read my notes. Hence, the point form nature of my notes.

·        Good Morning Kindersley! Happy Canada Day!

·        Canada Day Weekend demonstrates what is best about our country and our community: we have the character, courage, boldness, persistence, creativity and unity to create a country and a community.

·        I am proud to be Canadian and proud to live in Kindersley!

·        We are a small number of people living in a large land area; Kindersley is in the middle of everywhere!

·        Kindersley is one of those communities built by the railway line as we connected the east coast with the west coast by people who recognized the riches of the area

·        Our founders had dreams for their lives and their community

·        We are fortunate, lucky, blessed, to be living here.

·        As Kindersley’s motto from 100 years ago stated: the land has provided

·        The land has made Kindersley a producer of both groceries and energy for the Canada and around the world; we are important

·        We are home to families that have been here for generations and for weeks

·        We are home to hard working people who serve Kindersley as employees and entrepreneurs

·        We are home to volunteers who make our lives better

·        It is our energy that makes Kindersley our home

·        The energy to produce more food

·        The energy to provide oil

·        The energy to enhance the lives of our children, neighbours, the less fortunate and the elderly

·        Experience our Energy!

·        And before closing I want to leave you with a challenge:

·        We have energy, you have energy, I have energy, we have energy

·        How are we using our energy to build Kindersley into the community that is based on the better angels of our nature?

·        I am proud to be the Mayor of Kindersley and on behalf of Council we are spending our energy to build Kindersley that is the best of who we are.

·        Thank you and Happy Canada Day!
