REGINA — Viterra Inc. plans to build a high-throughput grain elevator at Kindersley, which will have a storage capacity of 34,000 metrics tonnes and a 108 railcar spot, the Regina-based grain handling company announced this week.

“Viterra has a long history of serving farm customers in the Kindersley area, and we are pleased to build on this relationship through a new state of the art facility,” Kyle Jeworski, Viterra’s president and CEO for North America, said in a press release.

“This project supports our ongoing strategy to optimize our footprint, and ideally positions us to provide our customers with expert advice and the best marketing opportunities domestically and around the world.”

Viterra recently announced it is spending over $20 million to upgrade four of its Saskatchewan grain terminals at White Star, Humboldt, Waldron and Ituna. It has also recently completed similar expansions at Gull Lake and Fairlight.

In Alberta, Viterra has announced it is spending over $34 million through an expansion and upgrade to its facility in Grassy Lake, as well as building a high-throughput terminal in Grimshaw.
