Pool Consultations

Today was the initial public consultations to develop a pool for Kindersley. I was pleasantly surprised when 20 people participated this afternoon and even more surprised with 25 people participated in the evening session. Group 2 led by Laura, Troy, Doug, and Bianca did a great job helping us understand some of the choices and decisions that need to be made.
Group 2 Opening Slide. May 19, 2015
Group 2 helped us understand different programming options, tanks, needs, and how programming can change for the better. As an example 'lazy river' was designed to be a fun activity floating around, now it is used for swimming lessons, physio therapy, and 'Active Seniors.'

Afternoon participants. May 19, 2015
A pool facility can be understood in three categories: programming, watertainment, and social interaction. A intergenerational facility can provide: fitness, health and wellness, social, life skills, and quality of life. As a note: each use is best done with a different temperature. Lane swims and competitive swimming requires cooler water whereas leisure requires warmer water.
Afternoon session. May 19, 2015
What are some of the activities available through a pool? Swimming lessons including lifeguard training, fitness classes and lane swims, leisure which may be unstructured and more social in nature, diving for both leisure and competition, swim club's and competitive swimming, and aqua therapy for  people recovering from injuries to helping those with arthritis and more.
Evening session. May 19, 2015
Some of the priorities established tonight include 82% favouring an indoor pool and:

Group 2 summarizing the evening session. May 19, 2015
Thank you to everyone who participated in today's consultations. The next steps are more consultations the end of June, a report to Council in July, and a final design report in August.

In an ideal world we should raise $3 million before Christmas, and other municipalities in west central Saskatchewan will participate in the development of this significant project. If everything lines up properly, IF, then shovels in the ground in 2016 and opening in 2017 or early 2018.

Question: do we want to borrow money if there are funding shortfalls for the capitalization of the project?

We are continually working on this and more is happening and I will update once things are confirmed.
