Western Canadian Cities as Forecast by the Conference Board of Canada

The Conference Board of Canada has made some economic predictions about Canada's 13 largest centres. Naturally they had nothing to say about Kindersley. However, having spoken to some local business owners and managers recently their experience is that their businesses are still growing at a healthy pace though not as steep as a year ago.

The Conference Board of Canada is predicting that Calgary and Edmonton will be entering recession this coming year with declines of 1.2% and 0.8% each. The obvious reason is the price of oil. This morning's WTI Crude Oil price was almost $60.

The Board is also forecasting that Saskatoon and Regina will be slowing because of oil. Regina is expected to fall from 5% growth in 2014 to 1.9%. Saskatoon is expected to cool down from 6% to 1.8% due to resources, agriculture, and utilities.
