Last night Council met with Group 2 regarding the development of a new pool. We came away encouraged. Council has directed Group 2 to look at both an indoor and outdoor pool.
Group 2 has suggested that an indoor pool may be build for $6 million - $7 million depending on design and configuration.
Public consultations start in May so please watch for notices and participate. The more people participating the better.
Bernie, our CAO, asked how much it would cost to rebuild the old indoor pool. The back of the envelope answer for 25 m swim meet tank, 15 m shallow end with a movable bulkhead, a tots wading area, and a slide, plus change rooms, admin room, and party area on a second floor is around $4 million. Again, I emphasize this is only a quick estimate calculated during our meeting last night.
I feel encouraged.
