SAMA 2015 AGM: Paul Martin

Paul Martin was the guest speaker at the SAMA AGM today. Mr. Martin highlighted some interesting facts about Saskatchewan's future.

  • In 2038 Alberta is expected to be economic powerhouse in Canada with Saskatchewan second;
  • SK is expected to be the fastest growing province;
  • The last 3 years has seen more than $20 billion invested per year - investment today is cash flow tomorrow;
  • The private sector has been investing more than $14 billion per annum during the last 3 years;
  • observation: Kindersley is paying to maintain yesterday's infrastructure while paying for the future;
  • Capital for infrastructure is to be found in the private sector not the senior levels of government
  • observation: does anybody want to build a pool in town?
  • Detroit issued their first residential development permit recently in 25 years;
  • Saskatchewan's economic drivers, the 3 Fs:
    • Food,
    • Fuel,
    • Fertilizer.
  • In the last generation 500 million people have moved from the farm to the city in China;
  • Russia's potash mines are in trouble with their largest flooded:

  • The sinkhole is estimated to be 600 feet deep and flooded;
  • The affected mine is 5% of the world's potash production;
  • 12,000 immigrants are coming to SK;
  • $30 billion of exports for net export of $10 billion
