Fire Yes. Business Too!

There is no denying that fighting the fire has been a distraction from the day to day operations of the Town and other business to move Kindersley into the future. Here are some of the other things I have been addressing to move Kindersley forward (most of these have been previously scheduled):
  • Spoke with Kevin Phillips, the Legislative Assistant to Minister Reiter, regarding the population data gap affecting our funding.
  • Met with the Mayor of Unity to plan the next Mayors/Reeves Forum.
  • Met with the President of SAMA regarding the error made during the last assessment.
  • Discussed some local concerns and SUMA issues with Deb Button, the SUMA President.
  • Have asked our Regional Waste representatives on Council to contact our regional partners.
  • Congratulated Minister Reiter on the effectiveness of his team and also spoke about the need for financial help to cope with this emergency; it will affect our budget.
  • Congratulated Minister Cheveldayoff on the helpfulness of his team.
Tomorrow, Oct 10th, I meet with the Mayor of Humboldt (we set this up about a month ago) to discuss a range of issues including:
  • regional collaboration,
  • regional waste management,
  • Infrastructure and Asset Management Conference (we might host it in 2014)
  • FCM (Federation of Canadian Municipalities)
Here is what is happening Friday the 11th
  • A federal announcement will be made in Kindersley.
This fire is a distraction, a temporary distraction that may take a season. We have to deal with it and we are. Our agenda now has an additional item and we will address it with due diligence to make the best decisions in the interest of Kindersley. This event will not prevent Council from moving forward with its agenda to ensure Kindersley is a positively engaged community that is socially and economically vibrant.
