Smokey Air

Should you find the air smokey outside please apply the "Shelter in Place" information provided in an earlier post. If the air is not smokey it is healthy.

Please be prudent and be safe. The smokey air is not healthy. I will be driving my kids to school tomorrow morning if the air is smokey.

Here is a brief explanation why the air is smokier in the morning than in the afternoon or early evening. As the temperature drops, and the barometric pressure rises, it creates a condition where the smoke is heavier than the air; as a result the smoke collapses to the ground. Because of this we have issued a public warning so residents within 1km of the fire are forewarned for the morning smoke. I have to admit it was smokey in my neighbourhood this morning. However, there is much less fire and smoke than yesterday so less smoke is expected in the morning.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is for light winds that will shift over the course of the day. The light winds are good for fire containment and suppression but not good for dispersing the smoke. The winds are expected to pick up tomorrow evening. Our Fire Chief, and the provincial experts, are hoping to have the lions share of the fire and smoke suppression completed by 7:00 tomorrow night.

I have a very busy day tomorrow and will likely post updates late afternoon or early evening.
