Moment with the Mayor

Hi Everyone:

The past few weeks have been eventful. We transitioned from an emergency alert regarding a dangerous sex offender to a significant fire at the landfill site, which required Council to declare a local state of emergency. The local state of emergency was lifted just in time for the Thanksgiving weekend.

The good news is that we have come through it with a better understanding of who we are. We are a community that faces its challenges head on, deals with them, and moves on. We have much to be thankful for.

I would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation. Many of you put up with a lot, and I appreciate your help. Once again, thanks are extended to the Province for the help of their terrific staff. Our fire department deserves our thanks, as do the guys in Public Works who have put in long hours in difficult circumstances. Bernie, our CAO, deserves public thanks for the leadership he demonstrated as he led our staff and worked with the Province. Thank you.

Okay, sit back, take a breath and be prepared to be amazed: This is more good news.

The Kindersley Clinic has been building up capacity over the past months with the recruitment of new physicians and extended hours.

First of all I want to extend a warm welcome to our new doctors:

Dr. Jimenez-Guerra

Dr. Lynda Keaveney

Dr. Sam Bakare

Dr. Hatim Kheir

Dr. Bisayo Olabiyi

Some more doctors are still expected over the next months.

Over the past year or more, many of us have developed new habits of travelling out of town for health care. Mine was one of those families. We don't need to do that anymore. Along with more physicians, other changes have been made to ensure effective and timely care. Here are some of the changes and additions you will notice:

             New scheduling system

Extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Physicals are now being completed (I recently had my first one in years - everything was normal, but you may disagree)

             Botox is now available

             Aviation Medicals

             SGI Drivers Medicals

Walk ins (I had to pause and read that twice but it is true.)

This is great news for Kindersley, and I want to congratulate the teamwork between the Kindersley and District Health and Wellness Foundation and Heartland Health Region for the improved level of care in Kindersley.

Please write or phone if you would like me to discuss a particular topic. If you have any questions or comments, drop me a line at the town office or email me at mayorenns-wind@kindersley.ca. You can also check out my blog at http://mayorjohn.blogspot.ca/. I appreciate your feedback.

Have a good week!
